Sophia Altamirano is a Mexican/Ecuadorian-American soprano born and raised in Chicago, IL and a graduate from DePaul University where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance. Sophia is a versatile singer who specializes in opera, but has a background in musical theater, contemporary, and jazz. Notable role credits include: Nella (Gianni Schicchi), Cinderella (Into the Woods), Servilia (La Clemenza di Tito), Cis (Albert Herring), and Lay Sister (Suor Angelica). Sophia made her professional operatic debut with the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company where she performed the cover role of Zorah in their production of Ruddigore - and recently returned for their production of The Gondoliers as part of the Contadine. Her concert credits include Mozart’s Regina Coeli, K. 276 (soloist), Eponine in a choral arrangement of Les Miserables with DePaul Voice and Opera, and currently a soprano in a concert arrangement of Verdi’s Don Carlo with Concert Opera of Greater Chicago. 

Sophia denotes herself as a dedicated artist with a great passion for singing. Her work was recognized as she won 3rd place in the Fox Valley Orchestra competition with Aurora University as well as the IAET Joseph and Maggie Glimco Competition. 

Additionally, Sophia has collaborated with the Joffery Ballet in their performance of The Nutcracker at Auditorium Theatre. She has also frequently caroled for venues around the Chicago area such as: the University Club, Christkindlmarket, Fortnightly Club of Chicago, Harold Washington Library, and the Palmer House-Hilton. Other collaborations include working professionally with GRAMMY award winning composer, Libby Larson, in preparation for the E.C. Schirmer competition where Sophia performed as a soloist for NATS.  Notably, other musical endeavors include an 8 year proficiency in piano and currently learning the guitar! Besides performing, Sophia can be seen running her handmade jewelry business (Sophia & Stuff) doing makeup, baking, watching movies and decorating her room!
