Sophia Altamirano is a soprano from Chicago, IL and a recent graduate at DePaul University where she obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance. Sophia is a versatile singer who specializes in opera, but has a background in musical theater, contemporary, and jazz. Role credits include: Nella (Gianni Schicchi), Cinderella (Into the Woods), Cis (Albert Herring), Lay Sister (Suor Angelica), Ensemble in Cosi Fan Tutte, Orfeo ed Euridice, and The Gondoliers. Sophia made her professional operatic debut with the Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company where she performed the cover role of Zorah in their production of Ruddigore. 

 

Additionally, she has performed for places such as the Joffery Ballet’s performance of The Nutcracker at Auditorium Theatre, University Club, Christkindlmarket, Fortnightly Club of Chicago, Harold Washington Library, and the Palmer House-Hilton. Other collaborations include working professionally with GRAMMY award winning composing, Libby Larson, in preparation for the E.C. Schirmer competition where Sophia performed as a soloist for NATS.  Notably, other musical endeavors include an 8 year proficiency in piano and currently learning the guitar. Besides performing, Sophia can be seen running her handmade jewelry business selling her products around the Chicagoland area, doing makeup, baking, and decorating her room.
